Confirmation

The Sacrament of Confirmation is the second of the three sacraments of initiation. Confirmation completes the Sacrament of Baptism and provides us with the gifts of the Holy Spirit. They are Wisdom, Understanding, Counsel, Fortitude, Knowledge, Piety and Fear of the Lord. Just like the apostles on the first Pentecost, the candidate for Confirmation receives the Holy Spirit which gives the recipient the strength to follow Jesus and empowers the individual to become involved in the mission of the Church.

At St. Ambrose Parish, the Sacrament of Confirmation is offered to students in the third grade. Preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation is done through the family with the assistance of St. Ambrose School or for students attending public school, through the weekly catechism program (PSR).

More information on the restoration of the original order of the Sacrament of Initiation that is Baptism, Confirmation, and then First Eucharist is available at https://www.dio.org/catechesis/restored-order.html.

Starting in July 2021 Confirmation and First Holy Communion will be celebrated at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Springfield.  More information on this location change for the Sacraments is available in our Bishop’s letter https://www.dio.org/confirmation/letter.html
